India’s Covid Death Count: Why Villages May Explain High Figure

On the second Wednesday of April 2021, Bakul Vadher left work at his shoe repairing business early, as he felt himself overcome with hot flushes. He had been persisting through a recent cold and cough to continue to bring an income to his family, despite his wife’s concerns and wishes for him to see a doctor.

The coronavirus had overcome its peak in the country and with a steady recovery rate and the recent rollout of vaccines a few months ago, Bakul saw no need to worry, until today.

LGBT+ History Month: Bisi Alimi on coming out and disrupting the system

Nigerian gay rights activist Bisi Alimi first gained recognition in 2004 as the first person to come out as gay on Nigerian national TV. Homosexuality is generally viewed as unacceptable in that country, and public display of same sex relationships can lead to a hefty prison sentence. Since then, he has been an advocate of LGBT+ rights in both his home country and, since fleeing to seek asylum, in the UK too and recently spoke to Kingston students for LGBT+ History Month.

NURTURE Magazine

This magazine was created by two other journalism students and myself. The magazine is aimed at young carers across the country who feel alone and unrepresented in the media. Nurture is a place where they can take comfort in advice specified to them, become empowered by recognising their hard work and to be distracted by their busy lives by reading it for entertainment. This topic is personal to me and I therefore took on the role of identifying this as a gap in the market, creating and developing the concept and becoming the editor to bring this vision to life with the help of my friends.

How yoga helped transform mine and my children’s lives while dealing with my illness

We’ve heard it all before: a healthy lifestyle is a balance of diet and exercise or whatever it is they say at PE and PSHE lessons. Sure, there are after-school clubs and extracurricular sports but what you may not know is that yoga could be the fitness answer. It can be done in the comfort of your living room whilst also having so many physical and mental benefits. It’s true – yoga is no longer just an old mum’s game.
